Adaptations
Animals in the temperate forest must adapt to changing seasons. These animals must be able to cope with the cold winters and the hot summers. Animals (some) will hibernate or migrate during the winter to escape the cold. Some animals, such as bears, will eat throughout the summer to gain weight in order to be prepared for the winter. The black bear also has a heavy coat that will help the black bear survive throughout the cold winters. Animals who do not hibernate during the winter have special adaptations to deal with higher exposure to predators in the winter.
Porcupine - The porcupine has over 30,000 quills covering its body and it is the most effective way of defence. The porcupine also has feet that are sharp and it also has very strong claws. This helps them dig out plants that they can eat, as well as help them climb trees.
